Sieffert's Grocery

I've had a couple of questions on if we had this sign that hangs in our kitchen made for us or not. We didn't, but this sign has had quite a journey that I thought I'd share.

Matthew's grandparents, Joseph and Emily, had a deli and grocery store in Freeport, IL. at which the sign hung outside. Quite a few years later, his Uncle Tom, who was a firefighter, got a surprise gift from one of his fellow firefighters. His friend gave him the sign which he had found at the dump and asked Tom if it was anything to do with him since the name was the same and unusual. Tom was amazed to remember that it was the sign that had hung at his parents store.

Tom was the cook for the firehouse, so he hung the sign in the kitchen there until he retired, when it went back to his parents house where it hung above the door to the garage. Matthew remembers it hanging there from his childhood and when he was an adult, his grandmother gave it to him. Matthew had this in his apartment in Evanston, we had it in our apartment in Chicago and now it's here in the U.A.E. Thanks to it's travels, one side of the sign is definitely in better shape than the other, but how amazing that it's gone from Freeport, U.S.A. to Al Ain,U.A.E. in about 70 years.
