Michael is playing for the Under 12's Rugby team at the local club and far too early Friday morning was their first match in Dubai. As you can see he needs to practice actually running a bit more than just loping along but for his first rugby game ever he did very well, had some good tackles and is really enjoying it.
As we are without a car now, Joseph went on the coach with the team and Matthew and I got a ride with some friends of ours whose son is also on the team. It was the first time we had been to Dubai but sadly weren't able to spend any time in the city as we had to take the coach back with the team. We have scouted out a number of places we want to go there for the next time though like this odd warehouse furniture district which apparently is huge and has great stuff and also the Asian markets as there aren't any here in Al Ain or Abu Dhabi and we are really missing favourites like Siracha, Garlic Chili Paste and Miso.
Today we had to do a border run into Oman to renew the boys and my visitors visas for another month. Matthew got his residence visa a few weeks ago, and we are getting all the paperwork ready to apply for our residence visas now that he can sponsor us. So we had to pay to exit the UAE, drive 500 yds into Oman, pay to enter Oman, exit Oman and then re-enter the UAE - a trip of less than 40 minutes but costs 235 AED each. Argh. Although we did get a lift from a neighbor so we didn't have to walk in the hot sun and at least this was better than the last time that we did it when we went to the wrong border crossing, got lost and it took almost seven hours! But I still can't wait till all the paperwork arrives and we can get all of it sorted for good. Phew.
Needless to say it's a quiet and hopefully early night here having run hither and thither all weekend. More updates to come during the week.
