Matthew and I got back from Jordan (an amazing trip - more in another post) late afternoon on Christmas Day having walked our feet off. We had a day or two to catch our breath and then on the 29th we got the call from our agent that the ship had docked and all our stuff was in port. Happy Christmas to us indeed! On New Years Eve morning we headed to Dubai to have the customs inspection done (no problems at all) and then that afternoon the trucks showed up and within 90 minutes our house went from desolate to packed to the rafters with boxes.
The boys were due back from Chicago on the 3rd and they didn't know that our shipment was here yet so we wanted to keep it a surprise. We worked our tails off for three days straight to at least get all the boxes out before they got home, even if there was still a ton of finishing to do. The boys were thrilled when they got home, but then school started for them and Matthew and its been a whirlwind since.
The house is 80% there and once we have it all squared away we'll post some before, during and after photos for everyone to see. But it really is the little things that have made the biggest impact - having bedside tables instead of suitcases on their sides, soft table lamps instead of overhead LED fluorescents (this really, really makes getting up at 5am easier on the eyes), a bathroom rug to cover the cold tile in the morning. I don't think any of us really realized just how hard it had truly been for the last four months until we had some comfort back - you know we just got on with it - but we are ever so thankful to have our things now even if there still is a bit to do. More soon.
